TST Gets VISN 15 Dept. of Veterans Affairs Insulation Project Underway
HANOVER, MARYLAND – Over a period of 8 weeks, TST’s survey team identified several thousand bare steam pipe fittings that would be candidates for custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC). The application of our RICs will restore the thermal efficiency of steam piping at nine (9) different VA Medical Centers throughout Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. TST survey teams successfully completed the assessments in mechanical rooms, steam plants, manholes, tunnels and crawlspaces and tunnels which revealed un-insulated steam valves, strainers, flanges, heat exchangers and other miscellaneous fittings.
TST and US2 presented a detailed report to the VA that included theoretical heat loss calculations along with recommended thermal solutions for all piping and equipment that shows signs of substantial energy loss. Once the VA’s Energy Management team has approved the recommendations, TST will proceed with design, manufacture and installation of RICs in a turnkey manner. TST expects to begin installation of RICs in late February or early March.
In 2011, TST | US2 completed its first VISN-wide insulation project for the Dept. of Veterans affairs which required the manufacture and installation of over 7,000 RICs in ten (10) VA hospitals throughout AL, SC & GA. TST has enhanced its competitiveness in the Federal marketplace by maintaining a strategic alliance with US2 for over a decade.
