TST Completes Energy-Saving Insulation Upgrade Project at NSA Monterey
MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA – Working in conjunction with Utility Systems Solutions, Inc. (US2), TST’s confined space entry team arrived at NSA Monterey in July to begin measuring steam piping within 17 manholes for custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC). Over a period of four days, our team safely accessed the manholes and measured all bare fittings and pipe that were a source of energy loss. TST identified nearly 300 bare fittings and 115 LF of pipe that were candidates for our custom-made RICs. TST also uncovered an additional 78 valves (and other miscellaneous fittings) that were losing heat within the boiler house. Approximately 6 weeks later, our team returned to install hundreds of custom-made RICs in the manholes and the boiler house.
The new RICs provide an energy-saving solution and decreased energy losses on the steam distribution system at NSA Monterey. The facility is now saving a significant amount of money on an annual basis.
