UPENN Steam Line Restoration

TST successfully completed another steam line restoration project near the UPENN campus earlier this week using its innovative ConduFill® technology. TST was contracted by AP Construction to assist in the thermal restoration of a 70-foot section of Veolia Energy’s buried steam distribution piping on Walnut St. in Philadelphia. Prior to the ConduFill® injection, AP Construction sleeved a new 5-inch steam pipe into an old 8-inch steam pipe leaving a 1.5” air gap around the new steam line.  Our ConduFill® technology provided a non-intrusive insulation solution for the project without requiring disruptive excavations on the street surface above the line.

TST was able to access the void and inject ConduFill® from the central sleeving point and from manholes on each end of the run. The presence of ConduFill® instantly restored the thermal efficiency of the line and it will prevent ground water from entering the system in the future which is often the cause for thermal degradation of buried piping systems.

Our field technicians were able to complete the injection in just a matter of hours once the new piping system was sleeved, inspected and in-service.
