GSA Steam Line Restoration Award
TST and teaming partners Tilt-up Construction & S.A.N. Business Consultants are thrilled to announce the award of a steam line restoration project for GSA. TST will upgrade and restore the thermal efficiency of 625 LF of high-pressure steam piping on Pennsylvania Ave. using its innovative ConduFill® technology. GSA’s 12-inch steam line is housed within a 30”W x 18”H concrete box conduit that lies 7-10 feet below the sidewalk. According to GSA, this section of piping was installed in the 1930’s and the original insulation has significantly deteriorated over time. Filling the void around the steam and condensate lines with ConduFill® will drastically reduce heat existing heat losses and prolong the life of piping system until funding for a complete replacement project can be approved.
To kick off the project, TST’s operating company, PCS, Inc., will remove asbestos-containing materials from three manholes that are associated with this section of piping. After the manholes have been cleaned and decontaminated, custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RICs) will be measured, designed, manufactured and installed on steam piping and expansion joints with the manholes. The project kicks off in early November and is scheduled to be completed in early January 2016.
