Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 7 Insulation Upgrades

TST performed an energy-efficiency improvement project for the Department of Veterans Affairs to restore the thermal efficiency of steam piping at eight (8) VA Medical Centers throughout Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama. Over a period of eleven months, over 3,500 custom-made Removable Insulation Covers were manufactured and installed on boilers, heat exchangers, valves, strainers, elbows, tees, flanges and other miscellaneous piping/equipment in an effort to reduce heat losses and save energy. TST performed insulation assessments and energy savings analysis’ at each hospital to identify all bare or poorly insulated pipe fittings in power plants, boiler houses, mechanical rooms, manholes, pits, vaults and underground tunnels. Once the targets were identified and approved by the VA, custom-made RICs were designed, manufactured and installed.

NRG Energy (Harrisburg) – Steam Line Restoration

TST successfully completed a thermal restoration project at NRG Harrisburg with its innovative ConduFill® technology. A section of buried low pressure steam piping was thermally restored when ConduFill® was injected into the void space within a 14-inch diameter outer steel casing. The presence of ConduFill® allows NRG Harrisburg to restore thermal efficiency, prolong the life of the piping system and avoid immediate and costly replacement.

Veolia Energy Philadelphia – Manhole Insulation Upgrades

TST measured, designed, manufactured and installed custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RICs) for all steam and condensate piping in 11 manholes throughout Philadelphia.

For nearly two decades, TST has been providing Veolia Energy with custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC) for manhole piping systems. Our turnkey contracting services for RICs consists of measurement, design, manufacture and installation. All measurement and installation work for RICs is carried out while the steam piping remains in service which often results in hot, rigorous work environments. Our experienced team of field technicians is confined space trained and will only enter these confined spaces after setting up adequate ventilation measures. Wearing proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and using confined space entry equipment allows our field technicians to work safely and efficiently at all times.

Veolia Energy’s district energy network serves the central business district in Philadelphia from three steam production facilities and one chilled water facility. Veolia owns and operates over 26 miles of steam and chilled water piping that current serves over 300 customers.

Rutgers University – HTHW Distribution Restoration

Rutgers University – HTHW Distribution Restoration

TST successfully completed another thermal restoration project at Rutgers University with its innovative ConduFill® technology. A section of buried HTHW piping located under the Co-Gen parking lot was thermally restored when 180 LF of ConduFill® was injected into the void space within a 24-inch diameter outer steel casing. Another section of buried HTHW supply and return piping was thermally restored when 90 LF of ConduFill® was injected into the void space within a 16-inch diameter outer steel casing. The presence of ConduFill® allows the university to restore thermal efficiency, prolong the life of the piping system and avoid immediate and costly replacement. TST has successfully completed dozens of repairs on the campus of Rutgers University since 2002.

Rowan University – Manhole Insulation Upgrades

Rowan University – Manhole Insulation Upgrades

TST measured, manufactured, designed and installed custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RICs) for all steam, condensate and drip piping in three (3) vaults on Rowan’s campus. These RICs will restore the thermal efficiency of steam piping in each manhole. TST crews removed and disposed of all existing insulation from the steam, condensate and drip piping prior to measurement, manufacture and installation of RICs.

University of Colorado Boulder – Vault Insulation Upgrades

TST completed the installation of custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC) for all steam piping and fittings in fouir (4) vaults on the University of Boulder’s campus. These RICs were fabricated with a hydrophobic Pyrogel® XT-E insulation. Pyrogel® XT-E is a high-temperature insulation blanket that is formed of silica aerogel and is deal for manholes or vaults that are prone to flooding, as it repels liquid water and restores the thermal efficiency of steam piping. For more information about our innovative RICs designed to repel water in flood-prone confined spaces, click here.

Veolia Energy Baltimore – Manhole Insulation Upgrades

Veolia Energy Baltimore – Manhole Insulation Upgrades

TST successfully completed another manhole insulation project for Veolia Energy Baltimore. TST measured, designed, manufactured and installed 143 custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC) for all steam and condensate piping in thirteen (13) manholes in Baltimore City. Phase I (measurement) and Phase II (installation of RICs) were both performed while the steam line was in service. Due to the extreme heat within each manhole, TST required strict confined space entry controls while working on the streets of Baltimore.
Veolia Energy’s district energy network serves the central business district in Baltimore from several different steam production facilities and one chilled water facility. Veolia Energy Baltimore owns and operates over 15 miles of steam distribution piping that serves over 250 commercial, government, institutional and hospitality customers.

Dept. of Veterans Affairs, VISN 15 Insulation Upgrades

TST was awarded an energy-efficiency improvement project for the Department of Veterans Affairs to restore the thermal efficiency of steam piping at nine (9) VA Medical Centers throughout Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. Over a period of eleven months, over 4,000 custom-made Removable Insulation Covers were manufactured and installed on boilers, heat exchangers, valves, strainers, elbows, tees, flanges and other miscellaneous piping/equipment in an effort to reduce heat losses and save energy. TST performed insulation assessments and energy savings analysis’ at each hospital to identify all bare or poorly insulated pipe fittings in power plants, boiler houses, mechanical rooms, manholes, pits, vaults and underground tunnels.
