In February and March of 2025, under contract with Steam Management, Inc., TST measured, designed, fabricated, and installed 550 custom-made Removable Insulation Covers (RIC) on steam piping, fittings and other heating equipment in 12 buildings at the George E. Wahlen Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. In addition to saving energy and significantly reducing heat losses at the facility, having removable, reusable insulation will also save the medical center money over the years as RICs can be removed and reinstalled when maintenance and/or repairs are performed on valves, strainers, and other heating equipment. Permanent insulations are often significantly damaged or destroyed when removed, which results in significant re-insulation costs following routine maintenance and repairs.

TST also installed over 2,000 linear feet of ASJ fiberglass pipe insulation on bare piping and elbows in many of the same mechanical spaces that received insulation blankets. The combination of new fiberglass pipe insulation and custom RICs in these critical areas of the medical center assures that the system will operate as efficiently as possible for many years to come with minimal heat loss. A special thanks to our experienced team of insulators Darron Landry, Quenton Landry, Brant Monistere, Jonathan Morgan, and Zachary Smith who completed the project safely and ahead of schedule.
